Materials used in Closet Systems
What defines a high quality closet system? Is it the amount of money you spend on it? Is it the company you bought it from? Or is it the material the closet system is made from? Well to some degree all the factors will play a small role in the quality of your closet system, and its ability to help you organize your closet to its best potential.
A few of the materials you may find commonly used in closet organizers are, metal, wood, plastic and cloth. Each of the materials are ok in their own way, it all comes down to you as to whether or not a system will meet your requirements.
A metal closet system will usually be sturdy, and will last a long time. They will usually come in a box and require the use of basic hand tools to assemble. Often times metal closet systems will include wire, or metal mesh baskets for storing shoes, shirts, pants, underwear, or socks. Sometimes the baskets will hang and be on a slide system that will allow you to completely remove them if they do not suite your needs. A metal closet system will usually include a metal hanger rod. The advantage to a metal hanger rod, is that it will not tend to sag, or bend over time like a wood or plastic one might.
A wood closet system, is going to be sturdy as well, but many different factors will come into play on how long a wood closet system will last you. If your closet system is made from a particle board, chances are it will not last too long, and will warp, bow, and sag over a short period of time. If you go with a solid wood closet orginizing system, it will likely last you a long time, but can require a little more work to assemble, and can be heavy and bulky. The one major advantage to a wood closet system is that they can be cut to size to fit your exact closet needs. If your closet is extremely small and you are looking for a good small closet solution, I would suggest having a custom closet system made for your situation.
A plastic closet system is usually inexpensive, and if not overly abused, can last a while. They usually require no hand tools to assemble, and go together quite easily. They are however usually weak, and will bend, bow, and sag if too much weight is applied.
A cloth closet system, is usually the most inexpensive closet organizing system on the market. They will usually hang from your hanger rod, and require no assembly. What you see is what you get. They offer a quick and easy solution to add space and orginization to your closet. They may not look the best, but they get the job done, and at a fraction of the cost to buy a nicer metal or wood closet system.
This was just a quick overlook of the basic closet systems available on the market today. If you have the skills or the money, there is no way to beat a custom closet system. Do your research and frugal shopping and you will be able to find a closet system as a solution for your closet space problems.
